December 25th, 2008 St. Louis Rams (2-13) at Atlanta Falcons -14.5 (10-5) The Rams have been going through the motions for a couple of months now and will have little to play for here, against a Falcon's squad that could conceivably jump from 5th to 2nd seed, with a win and some other help. Motivation aside, Atlanta also holds a significant 3-0 edge in situations, one of which has shown a killer profit in Week 17, over the past 14 years. It focuses on teams that are facing an opponent with a higher Gross Punt Yardage Average on the season. St.Louis comes into this game with a GPYF of 49.7 while the Falcons are at 39.7. A high Gross Punt Yardage average is not neccesarily a good thing: teams that lead in this category are often punting from deep in their own territory more-often-than-not, thanks to an ineffective offense. Week 17 is always difficult to predict, but, this situation was a solid 7-2 ATS last season and is 71-23 ATS since 1994, when a couple of other secondary conditions are added into the mix.
